Nice hand tied patchwork quilt . What I think I see is surged edges on the squares if that is case then I am inclined to think they used sample material that would be on display at a store so you could order more but store did not have it in stock ? I have never seen and antique quilt surged before so as a past quilter myself I made many I never had a surger . People would use any scraps to make a warm blanket and by chance they store was getting rid of outdated samples I could see someone sewing them together into a quilt to stay warm . Can you look at edges and tell me if the are surged ?
HI THANK YOU FOR REPLYING.
I THINK THE SQUARE ARE SURGED.REALLY NEAT. THE EDGES ARE FRAYED SOME AND ONLY A STRAIGHT STICH SEWED ABOVE THE FRAYING IT IS OLD IMM SURE
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO REMOVE A SPOT OF PAINT OFF A QUILT .ITS A BEAUTIFUL QUILT I BOUGHT AT A SALE. I BELIEVE ITS LATEX PAINT. THANKS
My Mother in Law makes them all the time I have one on my bed right now. My husband worked for a Furniture Store he would give her the old or deleted samples for the store
THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION THIS HAS ALOT AGE SO I BELIEVE ITS OLD THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR IMPUT
Well the fabrics could be old but if the blocks are surged together the quilt is not old . They did not have surgers years ago for home use . I am a quilter and have my own large quilting machine . I did have a shop here in my home for a while and I did machine quilting for other people . From what I can see the quilt pictured above is not old .
Nancy is right. Anything surged is not that old. I have seen a lot of these quilts made from old clothes, suits, etc, just for the warmth. I own a few of them, they are not so old, just look like they are because of the primitive way they are made, the old wools and polyesters. A quick way to make a warm quilt for hunting, camping, home, etc. Mostly they have flannel backs. Nice, though.
WELL I DONT KNOW IF IT ISN'T SERGED FOR SURE I KNOW ITS AM UNUSAL STICH I KNOW WHAT SERGE LOOKS LIKE CAUSE MY SISTER SEWS ALOT AND HAD A SERGE MACHINE IM GOING BY THE FRAID AND USE OF IT. SOMEONE GOT THE USE FROM IT.I KNOW THEY DIDNT HAVE SERGE MACHINES WAY BACK THANKS
THIS ISNT FLANNEL BACKING AND IS LINED THANKS
