I've looked online trying to find something similar. They seem to be able to hold one cigar per figurine. They are hand carved, it seems from one piece of wood. They hinge at the top, are unsigned and are in really good condition. I can't find anything like it searching google. Does anyone know how old they could be, or what they are?

I have these exact figures. I use them as bookends. I've often wondered what went into the holes, but I never thought of cigars... but I guess that would work.
I believe they are from the '40s. You can see mine here: http://copycatcollector.blogspot.com/2011/09/collection-57-mexicana.html

I would call them candle holders, One cigar wouldn't be very practical.. Just a thought.....

I don't think they are candleholders... The hats might catch on fire!
I do think they are bookends though, because I've seen identical ones without the opening hats, and they were sold as book ends.
