Beautiful and heavy 2 colour Ariel vase by Edvin Ohrstrom for Orrefors. Signed.

Absolutely stunning shape and technique, so precise - Clear, Burgundy and Blue. There is an amazing depth in this vase due to the use of the 2 colours. Burgundy outer and blue inner.

The diameter is approximately 16cm and height is approximately 9cm.

Ariel Technique

The Ariel technique, developed in 1937 by Viktor Linstrand, Knut Bergqvist and Edvin Ohrstrom, utilizes sandblasting to engrave designs onto the glass blank when it is cold. The blank with engraved designs is then heated and a thin layer of molten glass wrapped around it, trapping air bubbles inside that enhance the color and depth of the design. This allows the designer some control over the shape and position of the air bubbles, according to Vitra, the European Virtual Training Centre for Glass Arts and Techniques.
