I do not collect Harrach. I find it too derivative. But once in a while there comes a piece that makes me sit and pay attention. This JIP, at 12" high,
attracted my eye. So I traded a documented Loetz, with which I was bored, for it!
What made my mind up? Well, the body is actually uranium glass, and the pink glass, lined in gold, is applied over it. It does have a grainy surface similar to overshot, but not as sharp. When you light it up with a UV, the uranium glows under the pink for a kind of Halloween effect. The enameling, a mix of Islamic and Japanese, is spectacular. It is marked with an M II (which could be a W II). I have found other vases with a similar marking, which I think refers to the decor.
And it stands its own against my Loetz JIP's. If I am going to have a Harrach piece, this is it!
Thanks to Craig, who called this line "Flame".
