Got this lamp for one dollar at a country auction. I suppose that base was machined out of a single block of stone. I don't know if it is marble but it looks like it. It's not molded plastic but cut stone of some sort.

Hello, I believe your lamp base is alabaster, defined by Merriam-Websters as:
1 : a compact fine-textured usually white and translucent gypsum often carved into vases and ornaments
2 : a hard calcite or aragonite that is translucent and sometimes banded
Nice lamp & shade!
