I came across this stein at a German Flea Market. I thought it looked cool, so I purchased it. I decided to research it once I got home and found that I may have collectors item. I'm new to beer steins, let alone researching them. Can any one tell me what the numbers 6. 13. mean? Original or replica? Value? Thanks every one. I think I have found my new hobby.

This is a pouring pitcher made of stoneware by Villeroy & Boch at their Mettlach, Germany factory. The mold number is 6. The stein could be dated by the scallops on the logo, but they are not clear. The text is: “Wer nicht liebt Wein, Weib, Gesang, der bleibt ein Narr sein Leben lang.” (He who does not love wine, women, song, remains a fool for all his life.) “Wohl bekomm’s!” (To your health!)

The front panel on this stein depicts Germania, an ancient symbol personifying the strength, unity and liberty of Germanic peoples. Side panels show the Biblical Noah and King David.

The price ranges from $125 to $300 in mint condition depending on size. There is a 1,5 L, 2,5 L and 3,1 L version. There are small steins to go with it to form a set, form 1266. The stein also comes in different background colors. It is not rare and Mettlach relief steins are not as collectible as their etched pieces, so prices could go lower.
