This is your one room class for all grades . Love the small class's back then . A peek at the past . Gotta love the Teachers modest dress . Circa 1910 appx based on her age . Back of card has her name also has a place for postage . After looking at some of my old family photo's it has occurred to me smiling must have been not allowed . Always so serious looking even these little kids .

Look at the size of those ribbons/ bows on the girl to the teachers left.
  2. Manikin Manikin, 3 years ago
Must have taken a yard of ribbon or material to make them huge bows . I see photo's of presidents on wall above math work . Not to many shown so had to be early Photo
    Thanks walksoftly !

Very special pic Manikin !! Which one is your Great Aunt. Movies sensationalize these times. Most of these kids probably had to go home and work after school and most likely before school also.Life wasn't a picnic for most back then.

She had to do farm work before school and after . I can't tell which one she is on photo . I have so few of her as a child and their were 12 kids and all the girls are starting to look a like to me . I have to study it harder . Her name is Hattie I know .
    Thanks for love Hedge !

I love this photo! As a former teacher, I can't imagine teaching in a one room schoolhouse. It's hard enough teaching different levels in one grade. Thanks for posting, Manikin!

I hope you smiled more than this teacher :-) My sisters actually did go the last one room school in our state it was K-6 . Very tiny school . I was in the HS when we lived there .My sisters loved it . And that was in late 60's and 70's . When something happened they would walk to our house a few yards away and our dog stayed in class on playground al day he came home with the kids . I could never imagine teaching today ! I am an RN and Peds was the hardest for me kids don't co operate much there but the parents sometimes were worse than kids to take care of :-) Thanks for sharing Macro . PS when I see you name I think of the 70's and doing Macremae , made lots of plant hangers LOL it is all I knew how to make .

Yes, I did smile and so did the kids. I loved to macrema also, in fact, I used to teach classes, but haven't done it in years. Marco in my name is for Marco Island, where we spend the winter months in FL.

Wow lucky you to spend winter where it is warm . I will be knee deep in snow soon in the land of frigid weather :-(
I imagine you were a good teacher if your kids smiled too ! That's a feat in itself

I love photography, in my early years at school, in 1951 there were still the same in Primary Schools in Northern Chile.
