Thomas Scott (1747 - 1821) was a founding member of the Church Missionary Society and a trainer of missionaries. He later wrote commentaries that were compiled into these bibles. It took over 20 years to pull these together.
These were the first American bibles to include a Preface, explaining the purpose of these volumes and how to use them.
John Adams was said to have risen every morning to read at least 2 chapters from one of these volumes without fail. We love American history and feel very lucky to own a little bit of it, this is only 4 of the volumes, we're still on the hunt for Vol. 1.
Also if you look at the 3rd pic, there's one of our founding fathers (Thomas Jefferson) listed as one of the many subscribers!
Also this was the first American bible to be sold in parts or separate issues.
Each part sold for 75 cents at the time and was 120 pages and in 36 parts.
