Pictured is a super sized German Santa and sleigh made in the 1920's-1930's. What makes this display unique is the size. The Santa is 8" tall if standing, and the sleigh is 12" in length. The Santa has composition hands, boots, and face, as well as a rabbit fur beard. The face is hand painted. His clothing is felt, and he hold a sprig of a goose feather tree with a red berry attached to the tip. He has a sticker on his foot that reads "Made in Germany". The sleigh is wooden, and painted white. The rails on the side of the sleigh are real twigs split in half.
The sleigh carries vintage German wooden toys, such as a small horse pull toy, a bottle brush tree, a battleship complete with rigging and tiny flags still attached, and a 48 star American flag. Hanging on the side rail is a woven metal basket, which would also be used as an ornament hanging from a tree. At the time, only an affluent family could afford a decoration like this, which probably cost about $5.00.
