I was first attracted to this vase by the shape and green shaded to clear glass, with its thick walls that are reminiscent of the works of Moser in Karlsbad, Bohemia. This piece, however, is Nordic, from the country of Finland! Many thanks to fellow glasshound Cathy Dahms for providing the following information:
Designed by Pentti Sarpaneva in 1970, the patinated metal band is from Finnish silver and jewelry maker Turun Hopea. Later productions in the late 1970s did not include the metal band and have slightly more rounded base. They were made in various colors.
This example may have been given as a gift; it is monogrammed on one side of the metal band with the initials H&A, and on the opposite side with the year, 1974.
This isn't in the core of what I collect, but it is an interesting vessel to study, and a pretty nifty piece of Nordic design from the 1970s.
