I have little information on this piece. Hallmarked EPNS ( so it is Nickel Silver or plated) - Does anyone know country of Origin? An old price tag has, (Scottish?) written on it. What is this item??

A hat pin stand with Scottish motifs of thistles.

I like this! I wish I had one, as I have several hat and stick pins which would go nicely with it :))

Thank you for the posts :).

Vertra - Every bit of information helps. I will go in the hat pin direction. Most of the hat pin stands seem to be tall, and vase shaped. I will keep researching.

Thank you Wolcott1 - I will have to see if you have some of you hat pins posted.

Mystic, I have mostly stick pins...
Just a thought- maybe this is just a fancy pin cushion for sewing? or did you already eliminate that idea? Vetraio is a great source though:) have you seen them before Vetraio?

Hi again. I've seen a few over the years, but they are not sommon in metal. You see more of the pottery, porcelain type. The front page of this book has some different examples:

I've got an idea this one is made by I & I Waterhouse of Sheffield in England:

If you google "scottish hat pin holders" you will see a few more. But this one is definitely nicer with those thistles. The pins are light and so fit into the holders and wont topple over the stand. I think it will be weighted as well. Even though this one is EPNS it would be very desirable. It certainly puts my old wooden one to shame. A sterling example would be heaven!

Uhoh, I'm going to start looking for hat pin holders now! Mystic, yours is lovely and Vetraio, the examples you found are are charming. Maybe I'll start with a ceramic one since they seem to be easier to come by. Thanks for posting!
