I found this Crown microphone in Kentucky a few weeks back. The only reason I bought it is that it spoke to me and it was cheap of course. The lady I bought it from asked me why I was buying it, I told her I can't pass it up! These mics are becoming more and more popular these days. I won't jump on something unless it's Coke related or looks good in the house!

Things like this make me wonder.... who may have spoke into the mike?
I can see Walter Cronkite sitting behind this!
That's what I thought too Tommy. And that's the way it was EJW!
Thank you Designer!
Thank you ELW!
Thank you Stonie!
Thank you Chevy!
Wow, thank you officialfuel, packrat-place, lisa, toolate2, jojomang, Manikin and Longings! Too kind!
I know some mic collectors that would kill for this. Really truly a great find. Does it work?
It hasn't been tested Amber but the original cord/cable is in tact and if I had an amp to plug it in to, I could check it. I'll take it to the studio next week to check it out for ya.
I can't pass things up when they speak to me either!
Yep, it's what we do.
What an excellent pick...like you said ...when it calls out to you you have to answer.
Thank you REED! Even though I'm a singer by trade instead of an announcer, I just kept seeing Edward Morrow talking through it.
Thank you Kerry!
Gee I see Elvis :-)
Thank ya, Thank ya very much!
Thank you Hedge!!
I'm thinkin Orson Welles and The War Of The Worlds.
To think Hedge, back in those days people actually thought that Republic radio show was a real event happening. Watch out for them Martians now!
Great, Great, Great!!! I need one of these.

Yes you do loft! It would look great in your shop.
Thats a beaut. Perry, I've been on the hunt for one of those forever. Nice find, great lookin' piece! Time to set up your own recording studio!!
Bernie, I appreciate it! I've thought about it many times but I would have to put in a new sub-floor for sound proofing and then drop about 20K for a ProTools rig. No thanks. Besides, I like going around from studio to studio to work and come home to relax. The other 2 guys that do backgrounds here have rigs at their houses and they complain all the time about never seeing anyone anymore. I don't think I would enjoy just carrying around hard drives from place to place either.
Thank you BELLIN!
I really hate to disappoint you, but I'm pretty sure this isn't a ribbon mic. Argonne (model AR-57), Calrad (model 500C), and Realistic all made similar microphones. The intent was to give that "pill" look so famous after the RCA 77 line came out. If it's anything like the Argonne that I have, if you open the mic, you will find two crystal elements placed horizontally and facing each other with a few inches in between them. That's why you can find these mics for a much lower price than ribbon mics on Ebay. But it's still a good looking mic to put on display! Sorry about that!
Not a problem and not why I bought it anyway. I just liked the look of it. And it was cheap!
Thank you youngpicker!
Being Canadian I'm thinking Lorne Greene, before "Bonanza" he was the "principal newsreader on the CBC National News. The CBC gave him the nickname "The Voice of Canada"; however, his role in delivering distressing war news in sonorous tones following Canada's entry into World War II in 1939 caused many listeners to call him "The Voice of Doom"." (from Wiki)
I would have bought it too! It was a great price!
True, thank you walksoftly and decosound!
Thank you AntiqueRadioZenith!
