I always felt close I guess to Elizabeth Taylor as I knew Chen Sam who was her closest friend and publisist for many years. Chen Sam died at E. T.'s home. I was good friends Chen's parents who were so proud of their daughter, we lived in Toronto. Her parents were very much collectors all their lives also. I would phone Chen up when I was in NYC.
At the age of 13 years old I already had a good collection of images that inspired me to be a photographer. This image I had professionally done in a good size and I wrote many letters to get these images. I also wrote places that did master copies of images. This photo I already had by the age of 13 years old. I was trained well on how to write letters, by the age of 10, and so I knew how to ask people for their images, and get replies. A few years later in life I had a 16X20 image of this photo in my first apartment !!
Elizabeth Taylor in the movie, Anne Of A Thousand Days, 1969, she played a Courtesan extra, here she poses off the set in a moment of reflection, she was actually playing a game of golf here ! The costume sold a few days ago for over 27,500 at Christies. She also wears her La Peregrina pearl, just the pearl. La Peregrina is one of the most famous pearls in the world. Its history spans almost 500 years, and it has passed from the African slave who found it at Pearl Islands in the Gulf of Panama, to European kings and queens.
Most recently, the pearl belonged to Elizabeth Taylor. La Peregrina sold for a record $10.5m before auction fees were added. The highest price achieved was for the famous La Peregrina pearl that sold for $11.8 million ( £ 7,579,200 / € 9,118,725) and was estimated to sell at $2-3 million previous to the sale http://www.thejewelleryeditor.com/2011/12/results-elizabeth-taylor-jewel-sale/ .
