Hello Everybody, my name is Moxie and I am brand new to Collectors Weekly. Nice to meet you all.

I found this banner touting Camel's cigarettes folded away at a flea market in Los Angeles. I am a former smoker (I quit 15 years ago-yea me!) but still ponder the smell and taste of my long ago fiery friends.

I think the banner is made of a cotton/ polyester blend. The image is one used in many old school Camel ads, though I am not sure the exact date the banner was made. There are sticks at the top and the bottom, and on the righthand side the initials MW/SS. I have seen similar banners advertising American cigarettes and was told most were manufactured in Japan.

If you know anything about my newest treasure, please give me a holler!

    All best. Moxie

The same image was used on a tin counter display from the early 1900's, which was reproduced in 1998. If the banner has polyester it is from the 1990's.

Welcome Moxie to Collectors Weekly, thanks for sharing this piece. I'll agree with rocker-sd that it's from the 1990's. But display it if you like it and keep it around, the way cigarette laws are going, it won't be long before it will be a high dollar item, lol. Again thanks for sharing your lastest treasure

Thanks for the friendly welcome. I bought the banner yesterday. At first the guy wanted twenty bucks. I talked him down to "cinco". For me that is the best part of collecting-wheeling and dealing. Unfortunately, he also got me to buy a leather poncho I have absolutely no use for. Happens when I am in the buying mood. End up with lots of er, junk. LOL

Manikin, can you believe how much smokes cost these days. I am having a much better time buying stuff for my many collections as opposed to buying coffin nails.
Anyway, I showed a semestress friend of mine the banner. She believes it is made out of muslin.
