"Pic #3. Titled "Gun Stations" and reads "Bright flash over horizon on the 12 to 4 watch brings all hands to gun stations. Flash identified later as burning ship, probably tanker because of violent explosion, seen but not heard. Shortly afterwards engine failur sits us still for over an hour. All hands, including merchant seamen, stand watch until repairs are made."
