My grandfather gave me this pipe, he fought in Korea, so my first thought was it was from over there. I have no idea what the markings on the bottom mean. on ebay there is a similar one listed as a MEERSCHAUM PIPE. but the carving is slightly different & there are no marks on the bottom. arent MEERSCHAUM PIPEs like a soapstone or marble material?
any help /info/guess on value/ ect... would be greatly appeciated.

thanks

You are right about meerschaum being like a soapstone or marble material. Most wood pipes are made from briar wood which is very hard and fire resistance, and harder to carve. Meerschaum is quite easy to carve when moist and so that type of pipe, which are white at first and turn brown/gold/amber with use, are most often seen with the more intricate designs. If it is wood, which is appears to be on my screen, then it is not meerschaum. I am not good enough with wood type to recognize any type it might be... does it get real hot when you smoke it. As far as value, are you looking for an offer? ;)

Thanks for your help and Information. I have never smoked from it myself, but the wood seems to be of high quality... As far as selling it, let me do a little research and I will get back to you. Just email me ( twwtexas@hotmail.com ) so I will have a direct email address to contact you.

    Again thanks for your help.
