Recent acquisition. Tilting gate with lock mechanism to hold gate in tilted position. Patented by Israel L. Landis of Lancaster, Pennsylvania on April 11, 1882, Patent # 256,331. Quite a few designs were submitted to the US Patent Office for gates that tilt to clear obstructions in the gate's path such as snow or rocks. This is one of my favorites. This model is a fine example of the Model Maker's art. I fabricated the display stand.
