I just picked this up. Even though my focus is now on vintage paper items, I just couldn't pass up this...especially since I stole it, well almost. Got it at a neighborhood garage sale. I didn't feel guilty because owner dictated the price ($10) and he was sure that it was a repro since it was in such great condition. I wasn't going to argue...even though I know this particular tray was never reproduced. I wished he had a case of them! Just very little edge wear and light scratches on surface...hardly noticeable.
This vintage stuff is still out there. You just gotta keep looking for it. Actually, I had two of this same tray that I bought at an antique shop about 15 years ago. And at the time, the guy had about 8 of them, all in mint condition, still with wax paper liners between them. He said they were found in a locker inside of an old Sunoco Gas Station...and was told they were given out to customers with every gas fill up.

You really lucked out. You have to love it when someone knows so much about what they are selling. I bought one of these about 15 years ago when I had my soda fountain. What do you think the collectors value is today? I think the market may have softened since then. It is one of my favorite trays.
You thief!
rocker-sd: Even though Pet. 12th edition says $250 (and 11th edition said $400), I think I could sell this for $350 easily because of its condition.
Thanks signaholic. It takes one to know one :) And when I saw it on the table, I said "that's a beauty!" And the owner said "It's a repro. I'll take $10." And I said "ohhhhhhhkay then here's $10."
I haven't bought a Pettretis since I closed my fountain in 2002. I paid 300.00 for mine in 1998. I think that is about when the coke market was at it's peak.
Yep, pretty much rocker. Hey Ray, that's so funny that he was so sure it was a reproduction. Goes to show ya, you gotta know your stuff when you're out there on the hunt! There are several Coke trays that they never reproduced but I'm preachin to the choir. You obviously already know that.
To think you got a highly desirable tray, in fact, the last to be produced before the end of WW2 for only a $10 bill! Sweet pickin my friend
The keen eye of a master always prevails!!!!!! Beautiful tray Ray!!
Thanks tommy and nascaronmain...and to think, it was right around the corner in my neighborhood.
You gotta have a little Irish running in your blood Mr. K! The garage sales I've been to are heavy on old toys and clothes, very light on "reproduction" trays like this, that's for sure. Whatta Sat. morning score! *Tip of the Hat*
I'm thinking that is "Score of the Week"!!!
Beauti tray,Ray, Perry's right, you did steal it!!. If it starts to clash with your other paper goods, there's a guy in Canada who would love to have one of these, he'd probably even make you a ridiculous offer like 3 or 4 times what you paid!! I think you might know him!
Nice tray, do want to double your money?
oops, "you"
Doesn't get much better than that. Great find!
Super fine and i think i was born in the wrong decade. women in advertising and pin-up girls are hot!
