Of coarse we were poor and when we needed snow Mom made us some from freezer if it was a swimming pool because it was hot well Mom put a plastic liner in laundry basket and I had my own pool . I love how we survived without store bought things and we all lived to see what so many will never know . Of coarse I never thought I would expose myself on CW LOL but I think this is precious and we all did it as kids . I swam in my own little tub and it may as well have been a whole ocean to me .

Life was simple and wonderful wasn't it walksoft and kids were safe . Imagine a kid in a plastic bag lined pool now CPS would take your parents away from you .

We still have a soap saver washboard if you need to do some laundry. We had a galvanized wash tub as kids but it was strictly for laundry and taking a bath. It was to precious to let kids just go for a swim in it.
fhr gee you were rich you had a real metal tub ! I don't recall seeing one of those around the house till collected one as a adult :-) I have all the washing items I need as you can see from Christmas the year before . My own washing machine, iron,clothes rack to dry clothes . Imagine an electric hot iron for a 11 mo old :-)

thats a nice pool a bit small, ours was the street when flooded in the city of lynn dirty water ,but we lived ,maybe a little brain damage
lol Lundy . I don't think I saw city water lines we had a well and that would have been a bit deep ! I could have suffocated a bit on plastic bag or put my eye out when basket fell over and rusty handle got me . So I may be a little brain damaged too :-) of coarse with that glass in my hand in slippery plastic pool I could have really got cut bad falling . How did we live ? because we knew better ? or luck ? :-)

Safest pool in town!! I lived for many years "off the grid" so to speak, countryside, well water, wood stove heat, we got so creative and never felt that we lacked for anything. The garden would last us through winter<(in mason jars), and for meat we would trade with the local peasants. I have photos of myself grown in a tub this size, trying to get a "Hot Bath", by heating water on the stove and filling the biggest tub we had. This really makes me nostalgic for a time when stress was very low, because we were in charge of everything, food, water, lights(did have a generator), but we had NO BILLS, ah, that was a peaceful time, we worked hard, and lived so very well, and we were technically poor, but we lived exactly like all the peasants with tons of land. Rural France is not big on classism or showing off what you have. What is the term, oh I'm waxing nostalgic??
Being poor is much more enchanting when you are young and the imagination is endless...!!!

Thanks for posting these and sharing your stories. There were 5 of us kids living on the farm when we lost my dad. He was 32 and left my mom with an 18 month old, 2 yr old, 4 yr old, 6 yr old and 10 yr old. Mom was 30 years old with the five of us to take care of. We didn't have everything we wanted growing up but she somehow gave us everything we needed. We never knew we were poor until someone told us:)
