What does it say on the label inside the sound hole? Is there a manufacturer name? In the late 1800s, early 1900s there were many many 'parlor' instruments invented, often sold door-to-door. This instrument is basically a zither, possibly it had an unusual tuning that made it different from a standard zither. Oscar Schmidt made many unusual instruments, the one that caught on was the autoharp.
