One of my best auction coups ever ~ an original 1843 "Mansion of Happiness" board game with original instruction sheet that I snagged in a box lot at an antique toy auction for $25! This is adknowledged to be the first 'point-A-to-point-B' board game made in America and has wonderful hand coloring. The instructions are hard to believe... for example:
"6. Whoever gets (lands) in a PASSION (space) must be taken to the WATER, and have a ducking to cool him."
and...
"9. Whoever becomes a SABBATH BREAKER must be taken to the WHIPPING POST and whipt."
Now THAT is entertainment!
A true classic that we have framed as you see it on our wall.

Lisa Hix wrote an article that refers to this game:

".... How Greed Changed Games."
Well... the game (suprisingly to me) does not mention greed, but I guess we could amend the rules thusly:
"4. Whoever possesses AUDACITY, CRUELTY, IMMODESTY, or INGRATITUDE, (add GREED) must return to his former situation till his turn comes to spin again, and not even think of Happiness, much less partake of it."
