This vase came home two weeks ago and was one of the last purchases of 2011. I liked it's shape more than anything I suppose. I has a ground pontil that is rough and has not been polished. With it are a couple of Martin Boyd pottery pieces. It needs a good clean inside still.

Nice shape! I will show it to my particulat Tango expert ;)
    2. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 12 years ago
My own private expert says it could even be a Loetz... but a look at books must be cjecked before claiming it is. So far I've looked at a Loetz book and simmilar shapes were made in 1918-1919... but not exactly this one
    3. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 12 years ago
      It could also be Ikora...

I saw a VERY simmilar design to Holmegaard's Karen Blixen in a 1930 Ikora vase last night... but not yours :(
    7. vetraio50 vetraio50, 12 years ago
Karen Blixen's vases don't have the trim on the top.

Thank god! We don't want 21st century tangos messing aroud! hahaha :) It' funny I learnt yesterday WMF made their tangos in the 30s, 20 years after they were first made :)

      Neck-stretching?
You're right austrohungaro Tango was produced by a variety of makers and it is still being revealed Loetz, Welz and more. There were even Belgian forms, I think.
There was recently an exhibition of Tango at the Sklarske muzeum Novy Bor called "Promeny barevnych kontrastu".

Novy Bor Glass Museum in collaboration with Dr. Jitka Lnenickova held the first exhibition Tango glass with us. Approximately 150 objects from museums and private collections presents mainly Czech production in its many forms and transformations of the leading designers and design for commercial production. An integral part of the exhibition period are also leaves business samplers. Rhythm of lively dance name was inspired by aggressively colored red, orange, yellow and green glass with distinctive dark contrasting details, which began producing in the first decade of the 20th century. And the vitality of dance as if to himself drew and glass, which in the early 20 century flooded world markets and even lost their appeal in the coming decades. The response of color tones can be found in contemporary glass art.
The exhibition ran from 18 June to 2 October 2011.
I've got an idea that it went then to Poland and may be still on there.

There is a catalogue but only in Czech at this stage.
The poster for it is worth a look though:

and there are some photos and text in Czech from the exhibition here too:

I emailed the publicity officer and was told that they were intending to do an English version, but have not heard anything back yet. Perhaps others could opt for Spanish, Catalan translations, too!
    12. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 12 years ago
Thanks vet! Looking forward to getting it! :) haha, I don't think Spanish will be a choice for the translation of such a book, not to mention Catalan... bu an English version will be more than welcome :)
