WWI enlisted spiked helmet for Bavarian Troops. The brass front plate displays the Bavarian coat of arms with inscription "In Treue Fest" (Ferm on Fidelity)
A shortage of the leather supply, and mobilization of many Reserve Regiments, created a massive shortage of helmet stocks. Drawers were emptied, and new ideas had to be found to equip the military.
On October 1914, the "Nurnberger Metall und Lackierwarenfabrik vorm. Gebr. Bing A.G." of Nuremberg was contracted to manufacture a limited quantity of 100,000 Helmets that were delivered to the Bavarian Army at the cost of 8 Marks 25/piece. The body of the helmet was black lackered metal from the "Siemens-Martin-Stahlstanzblech" Company.

    RARE and HARD TO FIND!!

Great Helmet! I am surprised to hear that the Bavarians were already thinking of metal enlisted rank infantry helmets at that early date.

I don't think I have ever seen a military pickelhaube with a decorative metal shell. I am assuming the metal would be to thin to count as protection? I have seen some steel cavalry versions, and have a reproduction of one of those, but the infantry versions I have seen have always had the leather shell. Is the spike detachable?

      Yes-
Spike is detachable. This helmet is RARE, and was made by a toy manufacturer for the troops. All the info I have is posted on the listing.....
