This is a Very Scarce Hobbs and Brockunier Seaweed Covered Sugar from the Late 1800s. The Glass is a Stunning Blue Opalescent! The Design is very lovely and the White Color on the Pattern is Clean and Crisp, its in Really Great shape too! Ive never seen another before so im sure its a Scarce Shape, I purchased it at the local antique shop for $25.00 with a 25% off Holiday Sale, it was described as Opalescent glass "Guaranteed to be OLD" Remember to support your local Antique shop, and Look there for Treasures! Very nice, Shawn! I believe Hobbs originally called this line "Coral" but most collectors know it as "Seaweed."
Would like to comment that this is a covered sugar rather than a candy jar (though you certainly could use it for that). I've never run across an original catalog from this time period that used the term "candy jar." This terminology didn't come about until around the 'teens.
Thanks Paul! when I saw this piece at the antique shop, I was both surprised and Happy, I knew it was Seaweed, I had seen a few on EBay but Never in this shape, I couldn’t Believe the Price tag said $25.00, I figured there must of been a large chip on the rim since the top and base were taped together, so when I had the owner remove the tape I was again shocked to see the Amazing Condition of both the rim on the Lid and Base, I made the lady put them in separate bags!
Thanks Vetraio and Amberrose for the Loves too! :)
That was a great buy Shawn-- glad that you got it!
