A great problem with period line catalogs is that many only provide the bare bones of a sketch, as in Pic. 1. Both vases in Pic.. 2 have an inner white layer, a middle layer of color and an outer clear layer, no pontil, 8" tall. Pic. 3 shows the mark on the vase to the left; picture 4, the mark on the vase to the right. There are a couple of these marketed as Kralik/Welz (wouldn't you know?) on Internet right now. If anyone knows of the existence of the first line drawing, please let me know
For many collectors, these vases are bottom-of-the-barrel Czech. Not for me. Knowing who made them makes them museum material! I am quite intrigued by the fact the Czech "scholars" themselves, responding to sponsors and market pressure, only concentrate on what their puppet masters collect for investment, not pleasure. Glass has an intrinsic integrity--let us respect that, no matter the market.
