My mother bought this guitar from Houck's Piano in Memphis around 1934. It was used at the time so I assume it pre-dates '34. She's always called it her Gibson but I cannot find out for sure. I have people who say it is a Gibson and others say it's not. Still others say it might be an Epiphone. It looks like the picture of an old 1934 Gibson L-5 but the dots on the frets are diferent. There absolutely no markings anywhere on it and we have looked inside the best we can without taking it apart.
Thanks for any info. My email is slyhook@hotmail.com

Not Gibson or Epiphone. It has faux wood grain figuring on the back and looks like a less expensive brand--perhaps a Kay. Looks like its in good shape though and Kay made a nice sounding instrument for the price.
Thanks. Is there a way to be positive?
Almost forgot...what year do you think it might be?
As I am NOT positive it is a Kay, I hesitated to say anything, but more knowledgeable eyes will help. Don't know how to identify year.
Ok. Thanks. Every little bit helps.
I hope this link works for you. It won't ID it for you but it will show you how vast the possibilities are. Kay, Stella, Airline, Harmony, Silvertone Valco, Sovereign, Regal.... http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=595316
Thanks. Guess I've just scratched the surface. I wish Houck's Piano was still in business.
