Get rid of this if you like Bellin:
You've resurrected the Italian teacher in me!
Ceramiche is ceramics, pottery.
Mosaici is mosaics.
LAVORI ESEGUITI A MANO - hand made goods.
La Torre ( the Tower) is probably the name of the factory or a pattern.
Monreale is probably the place in Italy just outside Palermo.
It's one place in Italy that I want to go to. It's amazing for the Arab and Norman influence. You can probably see the Hispano-Moresque design in your beautiful plate.
There is a Ceramiche La Torre in Deruta in Italy, but I don't see this as being their ware.
"The Arabs brought a rich tradition of ceramic production to Sicily. This timeless art has flourished for millennia, perfectly expressing the essence of Mediterranean culture. Like any other unique piece of art, a ceramic piece begins with an idea, a vision of an individual artist. Shapes, colours and motifs are deeply rooted in the past, with an eye to the future.
Sicilian ceramics is probably the most highly appreciated handicraft product of all. Most of the ceramic art sold in Sicily today is majolica (or maiolica). Finding ceramic art that reflects the island's true artistic heritage isn't always easy; you may have to search for it. Major ceramics centres include Caltagirone, Santo Stefano di Camastra, Sciacca and Monreale." http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/p/m/1cf228/
Light blue, yellow and green are the dominant colours in the lovely ceramics made in Caltagirone; they are richly decorated with flowers and geometric motifs. You can purchase vases, jugs, plates, mugs, jars and statuettes. Terracota plaques with house numbers are also very much in demand. In the ceramics made in Sciacca the lemon is the prevailing decorative motif. Tiles also come in a variety of styles. The multicoloured majolica tiles bear 19th-century motifs and can be used for floors or simply as decorative objects to be set on an elegant table.
