These porcelain items are part of my private collection of Asian art that I have been collecting for over twenty years. The term “wucai” (pronounced wu-tsai) means “five colors” though sometimes more or less than five colors were used. These pieces were made by imperial order for the aristocracy of the period. These pieces were difficult and time consuming to make… First the blue cobalt pigment was painted directly on the buff then glazed and fired at high temperature and allowed to cool… Then overglaze colors were painted on top of the glaze and fired a second time at a lower temperature to finnish the final product. The same Procedure was employed for the blue & yellow vase but with only one overglaze enamel color used.
