This rocking chair was passed down to us by my wife's parents, who received it from an elderly couple in the 1940's. The elderly gentleman was an Army Officer stationed in the Iowa Territory in the 1890's. It's not known when the chair was originally purchased. It has been reuphostered. It is solid wood, I believe tiger-striped oak. Lions-heads are carved into the top of the arm rests. It is very heavy and VERY comfortable. There are no tags of any type. We are having a very difficult time identifying the style, and any information would be greatly appreciated.

The style is similar to American Empire, adding the furniture maker's own take on the other decoration. Beautiful, but hate the headrest look to it, and the material.
