My 79 year old friend hand-made this set of two Kabuki dolls in 1958. She was pregnant and lugged the project back and forth to her doll making class in Japan. I can't believe she made the entire set. She said the needles were wire thin...if you see the hands up close you can only imagine tiny, tiny stitches being sewn. The materials she chose were perfect and so much detail went into the painting of the face. The silk for the hair was braided, left for a month to crinkle up, then steamed to create that wild look! The entire set is so amazing I had to share it with someone! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have since I found it stashed away in her closet (for probably over 30 years).
