I see these every once in a while in Germany, but when I saw the box I really couldn't resist. I've seen one Lithographed version of this which I'm fairly certain was made by Gama, but this early painted style is completely unmarked. It isn't uncommon for one maker to adopt/copy the model of another firm, so it's possible this is just a depression era maker that didn't survive. It is possible the clockwork mechanism is stamped with a maker's hallmark, but I don't want to open up a working model, that's just asking for more damage.
Works nicely, the only problem is that the tracks have made like concrete (like most Barclay wheels you might find). I'd rather have petrified original ones versus the incorrect replacements any day, though.
I'm trying to find the few other models this maker made, you can tell them apart by the paint style and the "turret" piece which was reused from model to model.

Wow, that a beauty and it's great to see it 's original box. Love the graphic showing the flip over action.
Sometimes the graphics on the boxes are as cool as the toy inside! Boxes are also a really important research tool, as they are more likely to be maker marked in the event that the toy is not. One day I'll unearth the proof I need for these.
Glad you like it!
awsome toy! Would like to hear what it sounds like.
Would you believe me if I told you it sounded like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EphEHLV6ZzU
I'll get a video of it at one point.
