I only have two of these. Anybody know what they're from? They seem to be toys rather than part of an operating train set... The wheels look to be hard rubber???

I think these are tin wind-up trains, you are missing the locomotive which has the wind-up mechanism.

The plastic wheels started showing up about 1949. You are correct in that they were primarily used on clock work sets, but will work with electrics also.
