I just traded an item to a gentleman that was worth more then what he had to trade and he used this to settle the difference. He claimed it was his great grandfathers. On the inside it reads, Hamilton Watch Co. Lancaster, PA. 17 jewels. Then there is what I think to be the serial number which is 896657. On the back of the case it reads, Gaurenteed 2o Years Philadelphia Watch Case Co. 9470364. There are also names engraved into it in very small letters with some dates ie 4/74, 8/9/72, and 10/62. I didnt include the names for privacy reasons as i dont know the persons that wrote them. On the case it also reads a dozen or so really tiny 4 digit numbers. Can any one tell me what these could mean or how old this peice is?

Here's a link for you. Just type in your serial number. Your case is gold filled not solid gold. We'd love to see a pic of the movement. Thanks for sharing!

Thank You toolate2 so its a 1912 17j size 16 grade 974? assuming i did that right. can you tell me aprx. what its worth?
The case markings you're talking about are most likely jewelers marks. When the watch was brought in for service they would mark the case using a code so the next time it was brought in they would know when they last saw it and for what... The value isn't that great. Maybe $100- $150.00 If it's running well I'd put it in my pocket and show it off to my friends!!!
thank you and i will
I had this one and a few other from 1875s, I did have a hamilton which was gold not Gold filled sold for 1,200. The gold is on the outside cases, the others are Gold filled no one was them.
