Looks like a nice Hamilton railroad watch. Very cool railroad case and dial...Unscrew the back and take pictures of the movement. That's what really tells the story.
I like the chain and the horse fob as well. Post clear pictures of the works/movement or at least give us the information there to tell you more.
You can click on the Edit this Page link just below your pictures to add text and up to 3 more photos.
Picture of inside added.. the small writing says 950B 23 jewels. and a "S8277" deeper in the movement. inside back of watch cover says "Hamilton watch Co"
10 K gold filled lancaster PA k297113. Let me know what you think. And what value might be, thanks!
Your watch was made in 1941.
It is a high quality watch.
Is the crystal broke or the dial face? The crystal is easier replaced than the dial.
And does it run?
The crack is in the dial face unfortunately.. I wound the watch, and its running.. all hands are moving.. I was unable to set the time.. I dont know exactly how though, i tried to pull up on the wind knob. it would not pop up and i didnt want to force / break it. On the inside of the back cover there are very small "ingravings" with dates (two of them) cant really read them both. but one says "24k). I assume they were made by a repairman.
As all RR Watches this is lever set. DO NOT PULL THE STEM.
To set the time you unscrew the cover over the face. Between the 2:00 and 3:00 position you will find a lever that pulls out with the thumbnail. Then turn the stem to set the time. Once set, push the lever back in and screw the cover back on.
The reason for lever set is that it kept someone from accidentally changing the time when winding.
The small scratches are jewelers marks, for working and cleaning. Possibly also for time checks which was required on a set period schedule.
24K is not a reference to gold.
Thanks for all the great information..
Anyone know what a good asking price for it would be? Its been in storage. Maybe needs to get to someone who is more of a collector than me..
