The origin of this is a puzzlement. It's crockery, about 6" tall, and has the marking "14L" by the handle. The words are an old toast, and the I have dated it back to 1872, but it is likely older. It is a wonderful sentiment: "Happy are we met, happy have we been, happy may we part and happy meet again". I believe the toast is British, but its sources may be Scottish, Irish, or Welsh, for all I know. It's a lovely old piece with marvelous heft; fits the hand very well, which of course was its purpose, no doubt. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
