Bought this at a thrift store. I love it! The history of Gruen watches is interesting. I believe this to be an original Gruen, before they merged with others and developed throughout the 30's 40's and so on...but I have yet to confirm this.

The pictures aren't real clear but I would say it is a Quadratron (spelling may be off). Looks like there is no little dial with a second hand so that should date it before 1921. As I recall they brought out what was called the doctor's watch in 1921. The doctor's watch had a small dial above the number 6 that had a second hand. I have one very much like the one you picture and researched it a number of years ago.

Thanks for the info. I'm even more excited than before! I'm visiting my grandmother to show her this today. We will have fun researching more on this one. Thanks again!
So glad I saw this. I have a watch that appears nearly identical, except for a slight difference on the face. I also have its original composition cardboard type case and the warranty. The watch was given to my mother as a graduation gift in 1929 or 1930. It has been cleaned and runs perfectly. I want to do more research now that I have seen this.
