Good Morning,

An interesting find at Goodwill. I am not sure if it is an old coffee cup.???
Is it an old shaving mug ( my mom on the phone thinks maybe without seeing it)
As you can see the flowers are on the front none on back. The divider is the same material as the cup is made from.
There are a few nicks nothing major and I see a small crack inside the cup but not on the outside.
There is a number on the bottom which is 503.
Any information would be appreciated.
Handle in perfect condition.
Thanks.

Ok, lets try this again. That IS NOT a shaving mug and that is why you can't find it when you search. It is a mustache cup and there is a world of difference. A mustache cup has a strainer like yours. A shaving mug is open top and is filled with soap so you can use your shaving brush to lather your face. If there was a strainer in a shaving mug you couldn't get the brush down in it. The two terms are frequently used but the two items are different. If you search using the term mustache cup you will find hundreds of them, many similar to the one shown here. I believe I have one in my collection almost like yours except mine is marked on the bottom. The fact it isn't marked doesn't always mean it wasn't marked at one point in time. If the cup was washed and an abrasive powder or pad was used on it, the mark on many of them was painted and constant washing with an abrasive removed the mark. I have some cups with partial marks. Unmarked it is worth $10 to $20 with the right mark Prussia etc. it could be worth two or three hundred depending on the condition.

In spite of the fact you dislike me, take the time to listen and try searching for a mustache cup or a pink floral mustache cup. I think you will be pleased.

    General Information

The mustache cup was invented in the 1860s by Harvey Adams, an English potter. Adams added an extra piece of clay that formed an arch or bridge near the rim of the cup. This additional piece acted as a guard for the mustache, allowing the user to drink from the cup while preventing the mustache from coming in contact with the liquid. Thus the cup prevented mustache wax melting into the beverage or the liquid from staining the mustache, not to mention a soggy mustache. However, with the addition of the guard to the cup it caused the cup to become specifically a right-handed or a left-handed cup.

Thank you so much. I had looked and was unable to find. I have a huge interest in antiques and old items. My grandparents left me boxes of items that I have started going into. Many items were never used. I really appreciate. I do have another item that I found last year walking around and I have yet to post. I have had 2 antique shops look at it but no one knows what it is. I will shoot a few pictures and perhaps you might be able to help. Thanks again
