Salesman's sample of a very interesting gate that slides and pivots out of the way in order to pass through. No design or patent information available.
A lot of thought and experimentation revealed what I think must have been how this gate operated,

UPDATE: WHOOPS! Got this one wrong. Only after I completed the arms that I thought operated this model did another model show up on EBay.
As you can see it operates entirely different than I thought. Back to the workshop!

Most likely used on a farm.

Does not seem very practical for a ranch or farm. I wonder if they sold very many?

Packrat-place. You wouldn't believe some of the elaborate gate designs that were used on farms. I like the KFC idea.

THE GATE YOU POSTED IS SOMEWHAT LIKE THE ONE MY DAD AND OTHER RANCHERS BUILT FOR US KIDS TO USE WHEN WE WENT TO SCHOOL. NEVER HAD TO GET OFF THE HORSE. THE LEVER HAD A SPRING ON IT. THE OVER HEAD CROSS BAR WAS HIGH ENOUGH FOR THE RIDER AND HORSE TO GET THRU.
