This is an eight inch Curly Red Headed Alexander-kin by Madame Alexander, which is on the tag on the back. His tuxedo is black felt, vest beige, flower in lapel, "diamond" in the cravate, four silver buttons on vest, pants grey, baggy black socks and button over black fancy shoes. Never played with. Box says series # 519, Blonde. I don't know if they consider this strawberry blonde, but it might have been sold in the wrong box. This Red headed "Groom(?)", or "Groomsman"(in a wedding party), has sleepy eyes colored grey/green/blue , solid upper eyelashes, painted lower lashes and eyebrows. After many years I am going through my Grandparents estate boxes, I did not know they were Collector's. Can anyone tell me about this doll? I have only seen one other Alexander-kin with the red curly "Caracul(?)" hair. This fellow has never been out of his box, he needs a good home!! Hi you wonderful Alexander kins is the groom doll. He is all correct and hair in poodle cut or also called caracul wig is right for him .

Hi Manikin, thank you for your kind words. Since posting, I have found out he is certainly not, "The Little Edwardian", unless he is cross-dressing by night!! I thought maybe that was a royalty figure. A dear woman shared with me that is it possibly '53, but more likely '54, as the hip and shoulder joints seem to be articulated, head turns to nod. I have tried to touch it as little as possible.She also mentioned the Caracul curly wigs were used in the Bible series of 1954, which is another indicator. I also found out the shoes are in fact Vogue Ginny soft plastic button over, I think my Grandma wanted him to look fancier? They fit perfectly. I am not a fan of E-bay, shoot, I'm just not technological, too old!!, but I would love to find this Groom his Bride, and watch them live happily ever after in a beautiful display case!! All these dolls, I will post, were in my Grandparents estate boxes which I have ignored for thirty years. TOO much work. I broke my back, and now rehabbed, finally have the time to do it. So many treasures, dolls, asian porcelain, Bellows paintings... had no idea they were Collectors. I am so happy that this "Show and Tell" is here. It is a wonderful way to get feedback from knowledgeable people. I wonder if there is a photo of the curly red headed '54 Groom with his Bride. I don't know how you found the "53 picture. I saw a curly haired best man made one year only 1955 which I think is part of your early dolls wedding party . I will try to find it ok .
I had considered that too!! That maybe they had done a "Wedding party", as his red curly hair doesn't match any of the grooms I have seen, from that era, mostly Blonde. Your doll has bottom eyelashes and they have always said the 1955 one did not have lower lashes . I believe yours was part of a special group of bridal dolls . He should command a good price but they price they have the best man is high for today's standards so don't base him on quite that high of a price tag and the best man is more rare . Manikin, I admire your computer prowess!! You would not believe how much time I have spent and never found these examples, well, I am learning so much!! I am happy to see the curly red hair, but the outfit on my little guy more closely resembles the Groom outfits I have seen. Would the "Best Man" be dressed more like the Groom than the Groomsmen? This little "Groomsman" is more flamboyant, would the Best Man be dressed a little more conservatively, like my guy? Here's where I have to admit the truth, something about my generation, no one got married, so I know little of marriage etiquette. Once I worked my first wedding as a bartender, and turned to my co-worker and said, "Oh how embarrassing, those girls wore the same dress", and my friend said, "They are the bridesmaids!!" I was such a tomboy. I feel like we are zeroing in on the truth, well, you are. Slowly taking the clues and putting it together. Do you think they would have done a "Special Order" Bridal Set? I am baffled by the fact that my guy is wearing "vogue-GINNY" shoes, which just doesn't make sense. Only because my Grandma bought things new and I don't know why she would have changed the shoes?? Michelle I worked with a doll museum amd doll antique store and hospital for over 25 years plus years . I have learned from a well known doll expert who mentored me all those years and still does :-) And yes I love dolls ! I have collected for more than 30 years . Glad I could help you . Dear Manikin, I just posted two Japanese Geisha dolls, one very humble canvas cloth, yet graceful, perhaps wartime, and one in a glass case, signed and VERY elaborate. I do not know if you dealt with many Asian dolls, but these are a complete mystery to me. Knock , knock?? They should be on my page. Thank you, Michelle

@vansky, absolutely, Mani taught me more in five minutes than 25 hours of googling had taught me!! I am very happy for the nice people here, as I am going through my Grandparent's Estate boxes and realized they were Collector's, suddenly the Garage sale idea went out the window and I decided to research their collection, which has been extremely informative!!
