Here is another find of mine that it seems some of you may enjoy. It was worn by an American soldier of Polish decent from Hamtramck, MI, on D-Day and through World War II.

This is a very rare "scarce" helmet with the Hawley Liner that is worth a great deal financially and historically being the first type of helmets of this kind in World War II. The M-1 helmet was introduced in 1941. The early versions of the helmet had a fixed bail. Later on it was found out that the failure rate in such design was greater because the force exerted on the bail when the soldier was running was too much and would cause the bail to break.

These types of items can typically be from $600.00--$800.00 or more if provenance is also a part of the collectable. Take care my friends and have a blessed day! : )

Hey scottvez. For you to appreciate one of my military postings means a lot with the knowledge you have for these types of items. Thank you so much.

Thanks for your kind words electo!

I picked up a "fixed bail" a few months ago. Unfortunately, mine has a later liner in it. These helmets were used for many years after the war-- it is nice to see one with an original liner in it!

I'm a big fan and small collector of all things military. I find the human story behind the items are the driving force of the military and am intrigued by the little nuances that vary, between countries, and even manufacturers.
You present your things very neatly and informatively.
