First let me say I do not like bowls. They accupy too much space. However, about 15 years ago I bought this one because of the color. Every time I decided to sell it, something held me back.
The manufacture is very simple: one layer of heavy pink glass, softly iridized, ruffled rim, three scroll feet in clear, iridized glass, and pontil mark. 4.5" tall, and about 5.5" in diameter. The color reminded me of the pink in my Formosas, which is listed as "Camellia-Red" (pic. 3)
Not long ago, a fellow Glasshound submitted a bowl to the group. We all agreed it was Rubin Glatt (pic. 1), an early Loetz decor (1898-99) consisting of a layer of heavy wine-red glass, sometimes with clear frosted iridescent applications. She also submitted pictures of non-attributed pink "mystery glass" with elaborate enameling.
And then, a Eureka moment. Her Rubin Glatt bowl and mine were identical in size and shape. Plus, my bowl's color matched the color of her mystery piece!
Following the name for the color, Camellia Red, and the decor, Glatt, which is nothing but a soft veil of iridiscence applied over a single layer of glass, I came up with a new Glatt denomination: Camellia Glatt. There are also Creta Glatt and Bronze Glatt (pic. 4)

RED WINE COLOR IS POETIC, BUT I HAVE NOT SEEN ANYTHING SO CLOSE TO EGGPLANT COLOR. THE QUESTION IS WHETHER VEGETABLE COLORS ARE ALLOWED IN ``LOETZIST`` CIRCLES. JUST JOKING, BUT THE COLOR IS EGGPLANT.
CANTZ TRANSLATES RUBIN AS RUBY, NOTHING CLOSE TO EGGPLANT. I HAVE JUST HELD A LIGHT THROUGH ONE I KEEP NEXT TO MY DESK: RUBY RED. BUT--IT DOES LOOK PURPLISH ON THE OUTSIDE . AND THE EGGPLANT IS A FRUIT! LOL.
