Militarist
(97 items)
Is anyone familiar with this award? It is shield shaped, silvered bronze on wood 14inches tall and 11+ wide. Two crossed ‘03 Springfield rifles and a target are mounted at the top. The center has the inscription, "National Trophy / Presented by the United States / to the organization of the / Organized Militia, State of / Wisconsin / attaining the greatest proficiency / in / Rifle Practice" The term Organized Militia would date this piece from 1903-1916. I have never heard of this one before and I have been collecting Wisconsin military medals for over 40 years!
