There was frost on the ground this morning as I rode my bike to the train station. Thanksgiving must be right around the corner. Got me thinking about this sweet Family Dog postcard by Rick Griffin for a Thanksgiving Turkey Trot at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, Thursday November 23, 1967.
According to the legend at the bottom of the card, the evening would promise "exotic birds from far-away lands... displaying curious plumage, roasting ears, random thoughts, blown minds, feathers, blood sacrifices, incantations, cater wahling, kicks, struts, thanx, thumps." And, of course, rock 'n' roll, courtesy of Big Brother and the Holding Company (with Janis Joplin on vocals) and Mount Rushmore. What, no pumpkin pie?
