These are two brass tubes that seem to be outfited as grinders of some sort. The top and bottom come off as you can see in the second picture. In the third picture you can see a bit of residue on the brace.

If you have any idea as to what these are I would love to know. Thanks.

Looks like some letters impressed around one tube -- can you make them out?

First guess - but no confirmation yet -- maybe for a Hoosier/Sellers type cupboard?

All righty then, we've got the big guns on the job ! Thanks for the help.

There are no letters. There are four rings of designs around one of the canisters. The look like some kind of "trench art" crude mechanical grinders.

These are older brass and/or copper pepper or herb grinders that are found in Middle Eastern countries. I had several when I lived in Turkey. The decoration that is found around the cylinders is hand-etched and usually denotes the area in which the grinder is made. On some models, the handle is detachable and can be stored inside the cylinder. They do tend to "dent" easily!

There's one that the ebay seller calls a trench art grinder -- but after reading Brenda's comment, I think it looks more Middle Eastern, especially when you look at google images for "middle eastern coffee grinder" -- Brenda wins this one!

Thanks for your thoughts. Since you are new you have a lot to look forward to. There are some real heavyweights on here. For phones or trains check Potrero. For clocks see Bigben (how appropriate!) In cameras Rniederman is a beast. Frosty21 OWNS in comic books. Areliczone is a master carpenter and luthier (and all round nice guy). Alfredo, AC_Dwyer, and Covers are the guys that write the text books on their subjects just crazy good. That is just a few! Me? I'm just a kid in a candy shop; a boy trapped in a man's body at permanent recess in the school of life.

So keep coming back and sharing YOUR treasures!
