This is an item I found in an estate sale about 20yrs ago. I loved it and neither of us knew what it was at the time. Since then I discovered the gourd was from argentina and had been made into the cup for mate tea. It has a straw/spoon like tool (called a bombilla) used to drink the tea but to keep out the leaves. Someone has custom made a handtooled leather holder for the gourd. I have no idea how old it is but like I said I have had it for 20yrs. I didnt know what category to place it so I picked folkart.
