This is our restored 1918 O.B. McCclintock bank clock chimes on the qtr. hour, daytime only! It's 7 feet tall and around 800 lbs. Solid copper and brass clad with stained/leaded glass dials and upper panels large brass tubular chime bells inside, also lights up at night.

Rapid City South Dakota just restored a similar clock and had put back up on the orignal bank. Love to see these things saved for future generations.

Thanks rocker-sd!, here are a couple of youtube video's of the clock and the master clock that runs it.

Now that's a clock I'd want on my wall! Exceptionally cool.

A clock can't state it any clearer than that, "Time is Money". Wonderful piece of history. Thanks for posting it along with the videos.

Do you happen to know the name of the chime tune this clock plays?

I believe that the Youtube listing is not correct. That is not the Whittington Chime. At least not the way it is normally played. The 3/4 Whittington Chime usually has 24 notes (3 groups of 8 notes) at 45 minutes past the hour. Perhaps it is playing a musical variation of the melody.

This clock is playing 12 notes (3 groups of 4 notes) much like a Westminster Chime, but that is definitely not Westminster.

Do you know how many bells the clock has?

Bruce, from an extensive article in the NAWCC bulletin (Jim West) April 1994 it shows the chime sequence as follows:
    (1) cathedral pearl Westminster
    (2) reveille pearl wellington
    (3) Whittington
    (4) Westminster

the clock has 5 chime tubes and 10 elector-magnetic coils to actuate the hammers. I would post pictures if I could figure out how?

    Hi George,

Thanks for getting back to me. That's quite a repertoire!

I thought that Whittington required eight notes to play, hench many chiming clocks will have nine tubular bells, cup bells, rods or gongs; 8 to play the chime melody and one for the hourly strike.

Does this clock play in chords with its 10 hammers? If so, that's truly a sophisticated mechanism!

I'll try to find the article you reference online.

Thanks again for the posting and information.

    Best regards,

    Bruce

Thanks Bruce, It has 5 tubes with 5 hammers 2 coils per hammer as this chime assembly is the earlier version, later they used a single coil per hammer probably sometime in the late 1920's it only uses the 5 th chime for (2) reveille pearl wellington and (3) Whittington.
later installations have 4 tubes and play straight Westminster.

George, I love your truck! Is that a 1946?

Michael, Good guess but it's a 1941 3/4 ton, frame up restored rust free Montana truck. All original w/216, 6v electrical, foot switch start ext. but I did change out the 4 speed for a correct 3 speed and the 4.55 third member was switched for a 1958 3.91. I've had several hot rod/muscle cars over the years, but I'm now content with barely doing the speed limit.

I agree with Michael, it looks like your '41 was made to do some real "haulin"! :). I found West's article listed on the NAWCC.ORG website but they must not have gotten around to publishing it online yet. I get the dreaded "404 Not Found" error message. I'll have to look it up in hardcopy the next time I'm in Columbia, PA. So you have this 800 lb behemoth mounted to your home, is that right? I can see why you have it set to chime during the day only! :D Very, very nice.

Thanks Bruce,Yes it's mounted on the house. Took a bit of doing but once I got going it went pretty well. No crane or lift was needed either as I was able to assemble it in place. We live on acreage so neighbors aren't too close and all enjoy hearing it. The master clock is in the house and works as it originally was intended other than I fitted a modern 12v power supply inside the McClintock battery charger so all looks as it should, even uses the original meters and switch just no large dry cell batteries. I also did a bit of modifying on the chime cut out cam so it comes on at 10:00 am and shuts off after 7:00 pm. The master clock also has a shut off switch for the chimes for servicing or when my wife is gardening in close proximity.

Thanks Tom, f.y.i. I'm in the process of restoring a McClintock Loomis street/bank clock from your town. First mounted on the Baker Block building in 1915 moved in 1931 to American National Bank on Taylor st. then moved around 1970 to the new Rainer bank building on Water st., now the B.O.A. where a reproduction is now mounted bearing little resemblance to the original.
    George
