Wittnauer Mint: Great American Triumphs (40 of total 60 medals)

So tonight we went to a local auction, there were a few things we kinda wanted. These framed, Great American Triumphs Medal caught our eyes.

It was getting late, so we asked that these coins be put up. The auctioneer did put these up as choice. He called them pewter.
We opened the auction for $10, there were a couple of other bidders, but we won the auction for $30 each, taking both for a total of $60.
Not knowing anything about these, only that we liked them, and that they would look nice in our home office.

Getting home, I looked these up on the internet. Ebay had a few of the single medals for $9.99 + shipping each. I thought kool, we did well. Still looking on the web, I found that these were made by Longines-Wittnauer - the set is called Great American Triumphs. These medals were produced in 92.5% silver and 99.99% silver. The edge of each medal is labeled with the composition (inscribed after “Longines Symphonette”). These are labeled “Sterling".

    Mint Mark: n/a

    Mintage: 5,000

Country of origin: United States of America

    Composition: Sterling Silver (92.5% silver)

Size: 39 mm – it is slightly larger than a Morgan silver dollar, but this is not a coin.

Weight: 34 grams (1.109 ounces of ASW)

Total weight of this set is 44oz of Sterling Silver.

1360 grams of Sterling Silver = 40.445639 Troy Oz of .999 Silver

    What a buy!

This is the second time this auctioneer gave us a deal.
