I found this in the local thrift store; I've been pining after something like this in solid gold, but still fell in love with it when I saw it. No markings whatsoever, there wasn't much wear on it at all, just some silver coming through on the clasp. Nugget style on one side, shiny finish on the other. I heard sometimes they use plated clasps on solid, low karat (8,9, or 10) chains, can anyone confirm/deny that? Also, I thought the style was quite 70s/80s, but like I said earlier, there isn't any of the typical wear you would see on older costume jewellery. I suppose it could just simply be a newly made vintage-looking piece, any input is greatly appreciated!
** I just recently went to a gold buyer and they said it was gold plated. A little disappointing, but still a good buy for what I paid I guess.

thank you Phil, I will heed your warning. I've even heard about people heavily plating 10KT with 18 or 22KT and selling it as solid high carat.
My 'gold eye' is okay, but still needs more training, and this one confused me because it doesn't seem to have been worn before, and me studying antique jewellery so often, I look at how its worn out and the patina for my first hint as to whether its solid gold or not. At least this piece is heavily plated enough that I can wear it with no green/black stuff happening!
Good luck in your endeavor finding a nice solid 14KT; maybe you'll luck out at a pawn shop or flea market and get a good price!! Thank you for taking the time to educate me on nugget jewelry, there is just some things you cannot read in a book!
