Pardon the dust! I became so excited, when I spotted another member, here, having a very similar chest-of-drawers, that I quickly snapped a few photos, while noticing I've neglected my dusting duties, lately...sorry! lol

Anyway, with the helpful info, of another collector, here, I would like to learn more, about this chest, if anyone has further news, to share about it.

When I bought it, the dealer said the chest was of, "Poor Boy", style. Each of the 4, dovetailed drawers, has a locking mechanism, but she didn't have the key. She also mentioned, that the solid wood types, were of, perhaps, birch and walnut. Honestly, I'm not sure.

Nevertheless, this is one of my favorite pieces...rock solid, and sturdy, with no apparent repairs or damage, [with the exception of a couple of drawer pulls, whose bases look just a tad bit different, from the rest].

    Unsolved Mystery

Very nice primitive dresser. I would guess that it dates to the 1870's, possibly earlier. The dovetails on the drawers are hand done, and the top seems to be one piece of wood, maybe about 18". You can't find wide cuts of wood on 1920's furniture. The escutions around the keyholes look to be brass, a nice detail. Are the drawer pulls attached with screws, or are the pulls themselves threaded? Very nice piece.

You mean dust isn't supposed to be on my furniture? I thought it was part of it, it's always there!
This is beautiful! I love it!

@ stepback_antiques: Thank you, so very much, for your comment. You possess some very interesting knowledge, about old casegoods.

Oddly, I never noticed, or took a close look, at how the top of this chest, was formed, but after your comment, I took a closer look...

The top, is not formed, from a single piece of stock, but pieced together, in five [5] boards, w/ tongue & grove. The two [2] outside boards, are 5.25" wide each, and the three [3] middle boards, are 2.5" each.

I wish a photo would show this joinery, but it won't. Unless, one is looking, really close, as you had inspired me, to do.

To answer your question, about the drawer pulls: They appear to be fastened, using old lockwashers, behind a round-headed, flat-slot screw. [I haven't tried to actually, take one of the pulls off]
Does this info, put a different spin, on things?
Again, thank you, for sharing your knowledge!

@hotkitties: I laughed, SO hard...thank you!! I have a magnet, on my fridge, that says..."Dust is a protective covering"

Perhaps, that's why, our dust, is ALWAYS there! : )
