The Syracuse Ornamental Company, of Syracuse, New York was founded by Adolph Hostein in the late 1890's. The company developed a molding process that took a wood composite resin, and pressed it into molds. It produced a fine product that appeared to look "carved", but was easy to mass produce in any shape or form. A genius idea! The company's main focus was decorative items for the home.

Lucky for us, they produced some very cool corkscrews in the 1940-1950's!

Unlucky for me, they also produced several "go-with" type items, of the same figurines. For example, the German Shepherd figurine was produced as a corkscrew (large / small AND in black, white, brown), also a bottle opener, a clothing brush, a tie rack, AND incorporated into a pipe holder.

So, just because I've got a couple German Shepherd corkscrews, doesn't mean my obsession is satisfied. Oh well... More to collect! :o)

Anyways, back to the corkscrews! I'm still looking for a few variations, and always looking to upgrade my collection. Especially the Golden Knight one pictured. Don't have him yet.
